Chet Porciau, Interior Designer 1970-2015

Quite the irony and such sweet, poetic justice for Barthelemy Campanel 200 years later.

As the proprietor of Chet Pourciau Design, his work was regularly covered regionally and nationally. His Magazine Street showroom was known to many as a mecca for the stylish and elegant. Locally, he was perhaps better known as the host of Chet Chat on WLAE-TV, and for his Thursday fashion and Friday design segments on Fox News 8. In addition to his local television work, he made frequent media appearances throughout the state and nation, and was featured on the Food Network's Worst Cooks in America, a competition series that focuses on finding true chefs among cooking neophytes. Known for his trademark bow ties and dapper attire, he was a ubiquitous presence in the community, serving as master of ceremonies for numerous charitable and fashion events. He was especially supportive of the Children's Hospital's Prom of Champions, the NO/AIDS Task Force's AIDS Walk, Bridge House-Grace House and Fashion Week New Orleans. He was a recipient of the Men and Women of Fashion's Prix D'Elegance award, presented to those considered the best-dressed people in New Orleans and benefiting the New Orleans Ballet Association's education programs. His maternal grandmother was the cook for the area's Patout family, who maintained one of the last fully functioning sugar cane plantations in the state, and where she lived in "the quarters." He thus experienced a way of life once common in Louisiana and now part of its history.  He left his unmistakable thumbprint in Campanel Cottage.    RIP Chet
